What is ergonomics?

Ergonomics is the art and science of designing work with the workers in mind. Ergonomics means fitting work to people not people to work.

Ergonomists contribute to the design and evaluation of tasks, jobs, products, environments and systems in order to make them compatible with the needs, abilities and limitations of people.

Ergonomics has many benefits. The primary goal of most ergonomics programs is to lower the risk of strain/sprain injuries by reducing hazards. Additional benefits to implementing an ergonomics program may include: increased comfort, moral, productivity, quality, and efficiency.
